Let`s talk some gear

Let’s talk some gear. Last year Fujifilm released the X-T5. While the predecessor - the X-T4 - was sort of a hybrid camera aiming towards photographers and filmmakers, the X-T5 is clearly a commitment to the photographer. You certainly can film with this camera however if you’re a movie maker you probably opt for a different option in Fujifilm‘s actual line up. This is not going to be a technical review, they have been done before by people who know better how to test cameras, this is a romantic description of how I fell in love with a piece of gear.

I have shot film almost exclusively for quite some time but knowing that the increase of the number of kids naturally leads to a decrease in available time, made me look for a digital alternative. Since my purchase of the X100V I consider myself a Fujifilm guy simply because this camera has never let me down and so I ordered the X-T5 within the week it was released.

I’m always hyped when unboxing something and the X-T5 was no different. I attached the kit lens to the camera and the next thing I know is that I became corona.

I hate when something forces me to lay down because I am more of a can’t stand still type of guy but I literally had no other option than taking her with me to bed on the first date.

OKAY SIDENOTE:

I’m German. We have different pronouns in our superior language for everything and they totally do not make any sense. For example “a car“ refers to “it/it” but every manufacturer that comes to my mind is male, “Mercedes (he/him)”. Now if you think that these rules were set up by toxic males you are probably right in the first place but it’s not that simple. Come along with me for some more examples: “Planes (it/it)”, “Airbus (he/him)” but “Boeing (she/her)”. It gets more confusing when you have multiple words for the same thing: “camera (she/her)”, Fotoapparat (he/him). I really have no idea how foreigners should learn German. Anyway I took her to bed on the first date together with my laptop (he/him), so basically we had a threesome (MMF) at first sight.

END OF SIDENOTE

This camera just feels right for me and no one can deny the importance of having the right gear. Every newbie photographer - me included - has this time when one says something like “I see through my eyes; the camera is just a machine to record it for me” as if he or she is the first person on earth to hold a camera and pretends to totally not care about gear but honestly guys, if we all didn’t care about gear, we would have become painters and go out with just an easel and a freakin` brush and even then we would argue about whose easel stands more upright and who’s brush is the hairiest.

If you take photography serious you have to have a camera that speaks to you, a camera that makes you happy and that helps you not only to capture the everyday moments of life but also lets you react quickly if out on the fields. Fujifilm`s X-T5 ticks all these boxes for me.

For almost six months now I almost exclusively used this camera, I can easily adapt my M42 lenses to it and with it‘s distinctive dials it almost makes me forget about my analog photography ambitions and that was basically what I was looking for.

It can be any camera for you, for me it was the X-T5 - well done, Fujifilm!
