Digital Detox

I deactivated my Instagram account 36 hours ago. Almost two days. The reasons for that are very diverse and I’m still not sure if it is the right decision.

But first things first. For one and a half years the first thing in the morning after I woke up was checking Instagram and preparing the daily post. Today for the first time in one and a half years I woke up and read some actual news. Real world shit, you know.

I decided to model my website and do some lay-outing for my book, while everyone else was still asleep. These are all things i wouldn’t have done and kept pushing away from me while there was an algorithm to feed.

Later the same day I showed some signs of withdrawal and every time it became somewhat worse I did something creative or at least useful. Okay, real talk: Getting  the 40 year old Polaroid camera out and almost instantly order Film for 50 bucks isn’t necessarily useful but a bit creative at least.

While doing all that my thoughts circled around Instagram. My daily online time used to be between 45 minutes and one and a half hour. Nothing too bad but still al lot of time when you add this up, while you lie on your death bed, hose in your mouth, diapers around your ass and think what you would have done different in your life, shortly before the almighty appears and reads you the statistics:

“Son (of a bitch), you spend six and a half years online on Instagram but only one year taking pictures.”
